Dear BVSD Board,
Thank you for all that you do for BVSD students! Your time and investment shines through in the quality of education offered in the district.
We are thankful to be a part of this district and look forward to working with you to establish Ascent Classical Academy Flatirons (ACAF) as a top Colorado school.
It has come to my attention that you are receiving quite a number of emails opposed to the school application within the last couple of days. There has been some misinformation on social media. I’m hopeful you are able to weigh the messages with the scale of truth.
This is a good school with a quality education. The kids learn quality educational curriculum, history, diverse cultures along with art and music reflective of the culture.
One myth is that this is a religious school.
This is a public charter school that teaches history and culture within the curriculum. Religious values are closely linked to cultural values, all faiths are taught from a historical perspective and are studied to understand the cultural impact.
The Barney Charter Initiative was written by a Professor through Hillsdale College. The Initiative is written with curriculum for a public school, independent of Hillsdale’s mission for their college. Barney Charter schools do not receive funding from Hillsdale or any of its affiliates The summer teacher training at Hillsdale is to train teachers in classical methodology, which is not commonly included in college teacher training.
Our hope is to draw a diverse population to the new school, as diverse as Boulder County. Different races, different genders, different faiths, different socioeconomic groups, different languages, coming together with one common goal, educating a generation that will positively impact their world.
Thank you for your time, effort and thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
Becky
