MYTH: ACAF Has No Plans to Recruit Latino/Hispanic Populations or Underserved Families:
FACT: WRONG. ACAF did address how they planned to recruit Latino/Hispanic students. ACAF has reached out to the following organizations:
- Intercambio
- Amistad
- Engaged Latino Parents Advancing School Outcomes (ELPASO)
ACAF also gave BVSD its marketing materials which were translated into Spanish. This was all well documented in its correspondence with BVSD throughout the charter application process. ACAF also plans to run a weighted lottery for Free and Reduced Lunch applicants. ONLY ONE OTHER CHARTER IN BVSD DOES THIS.
Read the documents ACAF supplied the BVSD board here.
“According to the TRENDS Report published by the Community Foundation, Boulder County has one of the greatest achievement gaps between Latino and Anglo students in the State of Colorado. The Ascent Classical Academy Flatirons team has been translating marketing materials into Spanish. The team will be requesting permission to distribute those flyers and materials in targeted locations including low income housing areas and non-profit support organizations such as Intercambio, Amistad, and Engaged Latino Parents Advancing School Outcomes (ELPASO). ACAF will also work with these groups to develop a collaborative working relationship and schedule parent information meetings to discuss the classical curriculum with a Spanish translator to assist.”
